A background colour can be added to all covers using the Cover Design Tool.
Choose a background colour by selecting 'BACKGROUND COLOUR' on the bottom left panel.
A colour picker window will appear. The appearance of this colour picker depends on the device and browser being used.
You can also amend the transparency of the background colour by moving the second toggle:
